Toni Morrison has gone on to be with the ancestors. At just 88, Morrison has left us all with a nostalgic desire to curl up on the couch with a throw blanket and crack open any of her novels, and mourn her with pride in ever knowing her work at all.
We are grateful for what she leaves behind; A body of work that tells stories, our stories with rich and memorable detail.
We can google Toni Morrison and learn all about her accolades, but to truly appreciate her is to know her work, to know what people meant to her, what black people meant to her.
Toni Morrison is unapologetic about her stories, and she stood in her truth, in ways that the literary world should be so lucky to have experienced.
She will be greatly missed, but forever celebrated.
